Are Girls Taught to Be Risk-Takers?
Would you consider yourself a risk-taker? Have you ever decided to act on a business plan, or quit your job to travel? Do you remind yourself daily to tell your young daughter that she is an awesome creator, thinker, planner?
Reshma Saujani, the founder of tech organisation Girls Who Code stated : “Most girls are taught to avoid risk and failure. They’re taught to smile pretty, play it safe, get all As. Boys, on the other hand, are taught to play rough, swing high, crawl to the top of the monkey bars and then just jump off head first… They’re habituated to take risk after risk. They’re rewarded for it.”
Can we turn it around for the next generation of women, or is status quo acceptable?
